8th DWI conviction leads to possible life sentence

Recently, a Missouri state citizen was stopped and later convicted with his 8th DWI in the past 36 years. The man convicted of the crime had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .256 percent. Since it was clear this man had continually broken the law through multiple DWI convictions, he is subject to serious consequences. The amount of DWI convictions and the range of years between them, matters.

In this man’s case, he is subject to 10 years to life in prison by committing a Class A felony offense. Missouri is a state the raises the level of DWI offense when a person is charged a third time. From that point forward, the class types of felonies increase.

DWI consequences

It is important to seek proper legal defense when convicted of any type of crime. DWIs are not always an accurate offense, depending on the situation. Sometimes, the measurements of determining blood alcohol level are skewed and unreliable pieces of evidence against you. If you are unsure what your rights are, you need to get legal help right away.

DWI convictions come with heavy consequences. Here are some examples:

  • High-cost court fees, fines, etc.
  • Inter-lock ignition requirement
  • Drivers’ license suspended or revoked
  • Jail time
  • Possible job loss

Your reputation, freedom, and overall quality-of-life could become greatly impacted after even just one DWI conviction. Thankfully, you can and should fight-back. You don’t have to accept the consequences that threaten your future. There are many resources available to help drivers understand the consequences they face, and avoid future hardships as a result.
